Mammography

A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breast. It can be used to check for Breast Cancer in women who have no signs or symptoms of the disease. It can also be used for a lump or other sign of breast cancer.In a mammogram, one stands in front of an x-ray machine. The person who takes the x-rays places the patient's breast between two plastic plates. The plates press the breast and make it flat.

When is Mammography Required?

The risk of breast cancer increases with age. That is why it is very important for all menopausal women to get regular mammograms.

Mammography can be the best defense against breast cancer because it can detect the disease in its early stages, often before it can be felt during a breast exam. Research has clearly shown that mammography can increase breast cancer survival.
